Why did you choose JMU?

I chose JMU because of its strong commitment to academic excellence, research practice and community engagement. The university’s emphasis on providing a well-rounded education in a collaborative environment aligned with my academic and personal goals. Additionally, JMU’s vibrant campus culture where we held doors for each other made me feel like I belonged and was welcomed.

How did your degree from JMU lead you to where you are today?

My Biology degree from JMU laid a strong foundation in research methodology, which I apply daily in my role at the VA. The hands-on research experience and collaboration with diverse teams enhanced my ability to engage with varied perspectives. JMU also fostered my servant leadership through roles as an OPA and Alternative Break Leader, helping me excel as a leader in public health, seize new opportunities, and make meaningful contributions to the field.

What does working for the Federal Government community mean to you?

My father dedicated over 15 years to the Federal Government (USAID), teaching me the value of a strong work ethic, serving the public good, and collaborating with communities. His commitment to public service inspired my own path in the Federal Government, driving me to focus on meaningful, community-centered work. Being part of this community gives me purpose, knowing my work supports a larger mission to improve care for Veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country.
