Hybrid Event: Responsible AI for Intelligence Professionals
Our panel of Washington D.C. experts will lay out the legal and ethical Analytic Tradecraft requirements that govern the use of any intelligence sources in analysis – including material generated by AI.

Time & Location

Arlington
About The Event
Our panel of Washington D.C. experts will lay out the legal and ethical Analytic Tradecraft requirements that govern the use of any intelligence sources in analysis – including material generated by AI. The primary responsibility is the need to be able to explain underlying data and methodologies. That responsibility is all the more challenging with AI because of the complicated nature of underlying algorithms which are not easily explained to laymen or policy makers. The intelligence professionals trained in our college programs will, therefore, face an ethical challenge of how to honestly meet the tradecraft requirements in the case of AI.
Then we would hear from the private sector about system security challenges posed by AI and about how private industry is attempting to establish governance expectations. What will be the legal and regulatory regime in which our graduates will work? What kind of liability might they face in the event of abuse.
Finally, we will hear from JMU faculty about how AI is worked into the curriculum now. Given all that, what should we be teaching in the future about AI?
This event is open to all.
Speakers:
- Dr. Barry Zulauf, Adjunct Professor, Intelligence Analysis, James Madison University
- Dr. Phil Baxter, Assistant Professor, Intelligence Analysis, James Madison University
- Amanda Molina, Corporate Counsel – Cyber and Artificial Intelligence, Microsoft
Building Security:
Keep an eye out for the pre-check-in questionnaire email. You will be receiving an email from CGI Federal with the subject “You’re invited to CGI Federal Ballston Innovation Center” containing your individual invitation. Please fill out the blank required fields. “CGI Federal host”, “Presented ID?”, “Company/Affiliation” and both badge-related fields will be pre-populated.
After submitting questionnaire, you will receive a confirmation email from CGI Federal with the subject “Here’s your pass to sign in at CGI Federal Ballston Innovation Center”. This will contain a QR code that you can scan at the reception desk upon arrival on the event day. If you can’t access your QR code, type in your name as it appeared on your invitation, and the system will retrieve your profile. Even if you pre-register, you will have to present ID at the reception desk on the event day. Pre-registering is not required to attend the event, but it will rapidly speed your sign-in process.
Parking:
The Innovation Center is located on the 9th floor of the Marymount University building (1000 N. Glebe). Enter the main door on Fairfax Drive (across the street from the Holiday Inn) and take the elevator to the 9th floor. If you enter from the Glebe Road entrance (Marymount side), you will not be able to get to the 9th floor since the CGI office space is separate from the University.
All CGI guest parking in the 1000 N. Glebe building is located on garage level P3. Remember to bring your parking ticket to the reception desk for validation as the rate is $11.00 for unvalidated tickets.
From P3, enter through the CGI elevator vestibule and go to the Ground floor, which will take you to the CGI lobby off Fairfax Drive where you will find elevators to get to the 9th floor. Do not park on P1 or P2 as these levels are reserved for Marymount University staff and students and unauthorized vehicles could be towed.
Please register and indicate that you will be participating virtually. With your registration, you will receive a link to join the Team meeting.
